While working for some big online shops in Germany, I saw a common issue - the on-site search. Many businesses with smaller budgets had a hard time giving their users a good search function on their website. It was either too costly, or they needed an expert in Elasticsearch to set up and take care of their search engine.

Seeing this, I decided to make a PHP library for Elasticsearch, to help developers who aren't familiar with it create strong searches. This is how the Open Source Sigmie library came to be.

While building this library, I thought of making an app to make search needs even simpler.

Since 2019, I've brought together a group of people to help me make Sigmie what it is today.
